Yesterday, the focus was uploading The Principles of MESLO: The Art & Science of an Estimate audiobook files to Spotify. Today, the focus is on Audible, using Amazon’s Audiobook Creation Exchange (ACX) platform.

Similar to Spotify for Authors, ACX provides independent authors and publishers with a way to distribute audiobooks. The process was relatively straightforward, especially with the audio files already recorded, mastered, downloaded, and organized. I’m excited to get The Principles of MESLO into more readers’ hands—or rather, listeners’ ears.

Preparing the Audible Submission

With the audiobook files already organized by chapter and track number, much of the preparation was complete.

For example:

011 - Chapter 4 - Labor - The Principles of MESLO

The 011 identifies the eleventh audio track, while the remainder identifies the chapter and book.

ACX also required the audiobook’s publishing information, description, cover artwork, and chapter details. I used The Principles of MESLO: The Art & Science of an Estimate as the title, with Luminare Press listed as the publisher. After reviewing the submission details, I uploaded the cover artwork and completed the remaining steps.

Choosing Non-Exclusive Distribution

One important decision involved distribution rights.

ACX offers distribution options that affect where an audiobook can be sold. I selected non-exclusive distribution, allowing me to pursue other audiobook platforms independently, including Spotify.

For me, the objective isn’t to limit the audiobook to a single marketplace. It’s to make the book accessible to as many interested listeners, contractors, small business owners, and entrepreneurs as possible, wherever they prefer to discover and purchase books.

What’s Next

With the audiobook submitted through ACX, the next step is the review process. ACX indicated that processing typically takes approximately ten days, although the actual timeline may vary. Once approved and published, the audiobook should become available through Audible and eligible Amazon audiobook channels.

I’m especially looking forward to hearing from contractors, entrepreneurs, and business owners who prefer listening while commuting, traveling between job sites, exercising, or working through their daily routines.

The Principles of MESLO grew out of practical experience in estimating, government contracting, entrepreneurship, and building the operating systems behind a business. The audiobook is another way to share those lessons. More to follow.
